Walking Challenges in the French Alps
If your walking 
club or group is interested in finding a
challenge walk in which to take part, either to raise money for your chosen
charity or just for fun, our French Alps Belier Challenge might be just the
event for you!
The Belier Mountain Walking Challenge
The Belier is a 27km off-road mountain walk (or run) around the resort of La Clusaz which includes over 1000 metres of vertical. With over 2000 participants, both walking and running, the atmosphere is fantastic and really makes you feel part of something apecial. At the end of the walk everyone has lunch in the town square – included in your entrance fee - and discusses the highs and lows of the challenge, as well as enjoying the carnival atmosphere - normally with live music too.
If 27km is a little bit too much of a challenge, you can enter the 14km L’Agneau walk instead which carries you around the first half of the Belier route – 14km with approximately 600 metres of vertical. You catch the chairlift down from the finish point into the town square where you can watch the first runners come in in record times!
August Bank Holiday Belier Walking Weekend Package
The Belier challenge always takes place on the August Bank
Holiday weekend. As the challenge occurs on the Sunday of your 4-day weekend,
you can enjoy a couple of days of guided walking before the event itself. If
your legs aren’t too tired you can fit in a walk on the Monday too, or there
may be an opportunity to visit the medieval town of Annecy, just half an hour
away.
The rough itinerary would be:
- Arrive on Thursday night in time for dinner and a discussion of where to walk the next couple of days;
- Walk all day Friday and Saturday with our Walk Weekender team;
- Start early on Sunday morning to complete the Belier Challenge. Finish around lunch time and enjoy the rest of the day swimming, sunbathing and relaxing;
- Visit the medieval town of Annecy to sightsee and swim in the lake OR enjoy another local walk before flying home early evening.
