Chalet Hosts x 2– Aravis Lodge

Sorry - this position is now filled for Winter 2009/10 season.

(NB - please note this role is also open to individuals and not restricted solely to couples)

We have an opening for a couple or 2 friends to work as Chalet Hosts during the coming winter Ski Season, based in our Aravis Lodge chalet, sleeping up to 40 people. The chalet is located in the small village of St Jean de Sixt, near the ski resorts of Grand Bornand and La Clusaz.

With over 220km of pistes the resorts are popular with our returning British guests, but are still predominantly French, meaning you won’t be based in a ‘mini-Britain’ as you are in some of the bigger resorts.

All our staff need to be efficient, flexible and conscientious in their approach to work. To get the most out of a ski season you'll need to be prepared to work hard, be energetic and love working with people. The ski season is a fantastic way to spend the winter and although the hours can be demanding and long, your rewards include plenty of time on the mountain side, meeting lots of new people and our great benefits package.

The General Benefits Package includes:-

  • Accommodation: every team member will have comfortable, mostly ensuite and individual accommodation
  • Lift Pass: full Aravis Region Season lift pass, which includes inter-resort ski bus travel and free day of skiing in 3 other Haute-Savoie resorts
  • Food: breakfasts, lunches and dinner will be provided when working
  • Competitive salary: please see below for details

In addition, we offer the following benefits:

  • Travel to/from France: minibus transfer from/to London, or flights will be provided
  • Insurance: comprehensive policy covers medical, equipment, liability etc.
  • Ski/Board Equipment: rental boots, skis, boards are provided if required
  • Clothing(work t-shirts, fleeces, ski jackets, rucksacks etc) are provided
  • Internet access: broadband access and PC for emails etc.
  • Discounted Friends & Family rates: for ski visits
  • Other benefits: such as discounted attractions / free ski lessons etc.

We would require our Chalet Host couple, or two friends, to have a welcoming attitude and a good eye for detail and list cleanliness, friendliness and flexibility as strong points. You will be a main point of contact for guests, so you must be able to build good relationships with the customers and assist them in all aspects of their skiing holiday.

One of the principal responsibilities of the Chalet Host role is the serving, delivery and clearing of all meals in the chalet - including the washing up! In addition the role will encompass the management and cleaning of the cafe and dining room areas - and you will also be expected to play a key role in supporting the domestic / housekeeping team on changeover days. This will involve cleaning bedrooms and bathrooms to tight deadlines.

The Chalet Hosts are an important part of the chalet experience and you will play a key role in ensuring that guests are comfortable and enjoying a high standard of personal service, and feel welcome and well looked after. A friendly smile and an interest in people will be particularly benefical - and experience of having worked face-to-face with customers would be a great advantage.

Previous customer service or waiting experience is not essential although would be beneficial - as would any Food Hygiene qualifications or previous catering experience. Full training will be given and enthusiasm for working in a fast-moving dynamic chalet kitchen environment is most important.

You can generally expect an early start for breakfast but would be finished by mid-morning, followed by the afternoon off. Evening duties of afternoon tea and dinner service will complete your day. A full day off is taken mid week. You will receive 120€ a week each (after tax). Your accommodation will be a comfortable and spacious apartment close to the lodge and will be fully furnished and equipped.

The season will begin on 10th December 2009 and run until Mid-April 2010

Applicants will ideally need a UK or EU passport or a French working visa, although UK visas may be sufficient for the right candidate.

To apply for this role or to find out more details please contact paul@karibuni.co.uk, attaching a CV and covering letter outlining why you would like to work for us, what makes you a strong applicant for the position you are applying for and what you consider you can bring to our team. Alternatively give us a call on 01202 661 865 if you have any questions.
