Driver/Ski Host

We have an opening for the position of driver/ski host for the Winter 2007/08 Ski Season working with guests based at either our Aravis Lodge, sleeping 35, or our Pre-Fleuri chalet, sleeping 12-14. Both chalets are located in the small village of St Jean de Sixt, near the ski resorts of Grand Bornand and La Clusaz.

With over 220km of pistes the resorts are popular with our returning British guests, but are still predominantly French, meaning you won’t be based in a ‘mini-Britain’ as you are in some of the bigger resorts.

All our staff need to be efficient, flexible and conscientious in their approach to work. To get the most out of a ski season you'll need to be prepared to work hard, be energetic and love working with people. The ski season is a fantastic way to spend the winter and although the hours can be demanding and long, your rewards include plenty of time on the mountain side, meeting lots of new people and our great benefits package.

The General Benefits Package includes:-

  • Accommodation: every team member will have comfortable, mostly ensuite and individual accommodation
  • Lift Pass: full Aravis Region Season lift pass, which includes inter-resort ski bus travel and free day of skiing in 3 other Haute-Savoie resorts
  • Food: breakfasts, lunches and dinner will be provided when working
  • Competitive salary: please see below for details

In addition, we offer the following benefits:

  • Travel to/from France: minibus transfer from/to London, or flights will be provided
  • Insurance: comprehensive policy covers medical, equipment, liability etc.
  • Ski/Board Equipment: rental boots, skis, boards are provided if required
  • Clothing(work t-shirts, fleeces, ski jackets, rucksacks etc) are provided
  • Internet access: broadband access and PC for emails etc.
  • Discounted Friends & Family rates: for ski visits
  • Other benefits: such as discounted attractions / free ski lessons etc.

The role of driver/ski host requires someone who is conscientious, has a friendly and enthusiastic nature and is able to manage their own time efficiently. You must be prepared to work as part of a team as many of your duties will involve assisting other members of our staff and running occasional local errands around the resort. As a driver you will meet many of our guests and will be responsible in ensuring they get transferred to and from the airport and the slopes promptly, therefore a flexible and reliable approach is essential.

A full and clean driving license is required. Previous experience of driving a minibus is necessary and experience of driving in winter conditions would be useful. Due to insurance cover drivers must have held a driving license for 3 years, and would ideally be over the age of 25, depending on experience.

We would require you to ski with our guests up to 3 days a week when not doing airport transfers.

A ski season is a fantastic way to spend the winter and although the hours can be demanding and long, your reward is plenty of time on the mountain side. You can generally expect to ski host during the most part of the day on your hosting days, followed by the evening off, after returning your guests back to their chalets. We have 3 transfer days a week when you can generally expect to drive from mid-afternoon often through to late evening – you will do on average 2 transfers in a day – Geneva airport is one hour away.

A full day off is taken mid week. You will receive 110€ a week. Your accommodation will be a solely for your use and will consist of a comfortable ensuite room close to the Aravis Lodge.

As a guideline your role will include:

  • Driving guests to the slopes early morning & collection after skiing.
  • Ski hosting with guests around resort up to 3 times a week – to spend the day on the slopes, return with the guests and socialise with them over tea.
  • Vehicle maintenance- ensuring the minibuses are cleaned regularly & generally maintained to a high standard.
  • Being responsible for refueling the buses and submitting all receipts to the resort manager on a weekly basis.
  • Outdoor chalet maintenance- snow clearing, keeping out door areas tidy, helping with tip and recycling runs.
  • Repping at self-catered chalets/hotels for Karibuni guests who are staying off site.
  • Early bar cover – serving pre-dinner drinks to guests.
  • Day off cover - helping with tidying up the chalets after breakfast & lay out afternoon tea. Driving guests to & from slopes & to restaurants in the evening.
  • Assisting in chalets if needed to cover illness or injury of other staff.

The season will begin on 12 December and run until Mid-April.

All applicants will need a UK or EU passport or a French working visa.

To apply for this role or to find out more details please contact paul@karibuni.co.uk, attaching a CV and covering letter outlining why you would like to work for us, what makes you a strong applicant for the position you are applying for and what you consider you can bring to our team.
