Ski Tech/Bar Person
We have an opening for a ski tech/bar person for the Winter 2007/08 Ski Season,
based in our Aravis Lodge, sleeping 35. The chalet is located in the small village of St
Jean de Sixt, near the ski resorts of Grand Bornand and La Clusaz.
With over 220km of pistes the resorts are popular with our returning
British guests, but are still predominantly French, meaning you won’t
be based in a ‘mini-Britain’ as you are in some of the bigger
resorts.
All our staff need to be efficient, flexible and conscientious in their
approach to work. To get the most out of a ski season you'll need to
be prepared to work hard, be energetic and love working with people.
The ski season is a fantastic way to spend the winter and although the
hours can be demanding and long, your rewards include plenty of time

The role of ski tech/bar person must have experience of ski adjusting, a good knowledge
of skis and snowboards, be confident in maintaining/waxing skis and
boards and be prepared to take responsibility for the overseeing of
the ski room and all equipment in it. In addition they must have a friendly
and enthusiastic nature to allow them to enjoy bar work with guests,
which may occasionally run to late nights as they will be the main bar person. You must be prepared to work
as part of a team as many of your duties will involve assisting other
members of our staff, for instance if guests want to change equipment
during their stay.
Bar experience would be useful but not compulsory, but experience of
ski tech work is essential. Ski fitting should take place mostly during
early evening arrivals, but fittings may be required later into the
evening depending on flight arrivals.
The Aravis Lodge features a fully-stocked bar which is open to all
our guests and limited external visitors. It will be open from 5pm to
allow guests to enjoy an après ski drink, although this shift
will be covered by another staff member during ski fitting times. Your
regular bar responsibility will begin after dinner, from approx. 10pm
and can remain open until 1am each evening if required. On certain other
occasions it may be open earlier (e.g. Six Nations rugby, football matches).
A full day off is taken mid week. You will receive 110€ a week. Your
accommodation will be a solely for your use and will consist of a comfortable
ensuite room close to the chalet.
As a guideline your role will include:
Ski Tech Duties
- Fitting guests with skis/snowboards and boots – setting
and adjusting DIN settings etc.
- Changing guests’ equipment during the course of their
stay, if required.
- Maintaining the equipment in the ski room, waxing etc.
- Keeping stock of damaged equipment and being responsible for
getting it repaired.
- Keep the ski room clean and tidy.
Bar Responsibilities
- Re-stock and re-supply with drinks and effective stock controls
and rotations.
- Prepare orders to the relevant suppliers.
- Manage the customers’ tab and cash sales from non-residents.
- Clean and re-set the bar ready for each opening.
- Provide music and friendly atmosphere, with potential for promo’s,
features, games etc.
- Maintain a clean, workable bar, keeping glasses washed etc.
- Ability to offer a minibus shuttle service to and from local
towns if required.
The season will begin on 12 December and run until Mid-April.
