Ski Tech/Bar Person

We have an opening for a Ski Tech/Bar person for the coming winter Ski Season, based in our Aravis Lodge. The chalet is located in the small village of St Jean de Sixt, near the ski resorts of Grand Bornand and La Clusaz.

With over 220km of pistes the resorts are popular with our returning British guests, but are still predominantly French, meaning you won’t be based in a ‘mini-Britain’ as you are in some of the bigger resorts.

All our staff need to be efficient, flexible and conscientious in their approach to work. The role of Ski Tech/Bar person would ideally have a good working knowledge of skis and snowboards, be confident in fitting and maintaining skis and boards and be prepared to take responsibility for the overseeing of our on-site ski room and all the equipment in it.

In addition they must have a flexible, friendly and enthusiastic nature to allow them to enjoy evening bar work as well as going out on the mountain ski hosting with our guests once or twice a week. Previous bar experience would be useful and some experience of ski tech work is very desirable for this role, as well as being able to ski to a competent level to guide guests around the resorts.

Ski fitting will take place mostly during early evening arrivals, but fittings may be required later into the evening depending on flight arrivals. Our ski hire facility in the lodge has a full range of skis, boots, boards and you would have full responsibility for their upkeep and quality as well as being the main point of contact for guests with any equipment queries.

In addition to the ski room you would be assuming responsibility for the late evening bar work 3 or 4 nights a week. The lodge features a fully-stocked bar which is open to all our guests and external visitors and can remain open until 1am if required. You would be responsible for the operation of the bar including the evening service but also the behind-the-scenes operation - cleaning, restocking, ordering etc.

Your working day does not include any morning duties, unless you are ski hosting one day during the week, and there is flexibility to manage your time during the day. Your evenings will start before dinner and may run through to 1am, although this depends on the groups. The rota will be juggled to try and avoid late nights followed by early morings. A full day off is taken mid week. You will receive 125€ a week (after tax). Your accommodation will be solely for your use and will consist of a comfortable double ensuite room in the lodge.

The season will begin on 10th December 2010 and run until Mid-April 2011

Applicants will ideally need a UK or EU passport or a French working visa, although UK visas may be sufficient for the right candidate.
