Ski Tech/Bar Person

We have an opening for a ski tech/bar person for the Winter 2007/08 Ski Season, based in our Aravis Lodge, sleeping 35. The chalet is located in the small village of St Jean de Sixt, near the ski resorts of Grand Bornand and La Clusaz.

With over 220km of pistes the resorts are popular with our returning British guests, but are still predominantly French, meaning you won’t be based in a ‘mini-Britain’ as you are in some of the bigger resorts.

All our staff need to be efficient, flexible and conscientious in their approach to work. To get the most out of a ski season you'll need to be prepared to work hard, be energetic and love working with people. The ski season is a fantastic way to spend the winter and although the hours can be demanding and long, your rewards include plenty of time on the mountain side, meeting lots of new people and our great benefits package, as follows:

The General Benefits Package includes:-

  • Accommodation: every team member will have comfortable, mostly ensuite and individual accommodation
  • Lift Pass: full Aravis Region Season lift pass, which includes inter-resort ski bus travel and free day of skiing in 3 other Haute-Savoie resorts
  • Food: breakfasts, lunches and dinner will be provided when working
  • Competitive salary: please see below for details

In addition, we offer the following benefits:

  • Travel to/from France: minibus transfer from/to London, or flights will be provided
  • Insurance: comprehensive policy covers medical, equipment, liability etc.
  • Ski/Board Equipment: rental boots, skis, boards are provided if required
  • Clothing(work t-shirts, fleeces, ski jackets, rucksacks etc) are provided
  • Internet access: broadband access and PC for emails etc.
  • Discounted Friends & Family rates: for ski visits
  • Other benefits: such as discounted attractions / free ski lessons etc.

The role of ski tech/bar person must have experience of ski adjusting, a good knowledge of skis and snowboards, be confident in maintaining/waxing skis and boards and be prepared to take responsibility for the overseeing of the ski room and all equipment in it. In addition they must have a friendly and enthusiastic nature to allow them to enjoy bar work with guests, which may occasionally run to late nights as they will be the main bar person. You must be prepared to work as part of a team as many of your duties will involve assisting other members of our staff, for instance if guests want to change equipment during their stay.

Bar experience would be useful but not compulsory, but experience of ski tech work is essential. Ski fitting should take place mostly during early evening arrivals, but fittings may be required later into the evening depending on flight arrivals.

The Aravis Lodge features a fully-stocked bar which is open to all our guests and limited external visitors. It will be open from 5pm to allow guests to enjoy an après ski drink, although this shift will be covered by another staff member during ski fitting times. Your regular bar responsibility will begin after dinner, from approx. 10pm and can remain open until 1am each evening if required. On certain other occasions it may be open earlier (e.g. Six Nations rugby, football matches).

A full day off is taken mid week. You will receive 110€ a week. Your accommodation will be a solely for your use and will consist of a comfortable ensuite room close to the chalet.

As a guideline your role will include:

Ski Tech Duties

  • Fitting guests with skis/snowboards and boots – setting and adjusting DIN settings etc.
  • Changing guests’ equipment during the course of their stay, if required.
  • Maintaining the equipment in the ski room, waxing etc.
  • Keeping stock of damaged equipment and being responsible for getting it repaired.

The season will begin on 12 December and run until Mid-April.
