Samoens
Samoens is very picturesque – a pretty little town based
around a large main square where all the buildings are made of wood and
stone. Traditionally a stonemason’s
town, you can see evidence of traditional masonry in the attractive
architecture of the village. Unusually
Samoens also boasts 9 chapels within its boundaries – perhaps another legacy of
the stonemasons!
The Skiing in Samoens and the Grand Massif
Samoens is part of the Grand Massif ski area which also incorporates Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillion and Sixts, and offers over 265km of linked skiing at heights of up to 2,500metres. This is a great resort for all sorts of skier as it has plenty of on-piste, off-piste and between-piste skiing. It also boasts one of the longest runs in the area, the Cascades run, at over 14km down from Flaine to the village of Sixt. Best to do at the end of the day though as it takes time to go up again as you have to get the bus round to Samoens and catch the main lift back up.
