The Resort
Our
Chalet breaks are based in the small village of St Jean de Sixt, situated
just 2km from both ski villages of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand in the
Aravis region of the French Alps.
The Aravis massif rises majestically between the Lac d'Annecy and the Mont Blanc range. These villages have become top ski resorts with an excellent reputation due to their excellent snow records and the variety of the surrounding mountains.
The Village of St Jean de Sixt sits at 1000m but the skiing is mostly all higher up at 1600-2600m and the snow record is particularly good. Many of the slopes face north or northeast and trees shelter some sections. During the particularly challenging snow conditions of the 2006/07 season experienced by the whole of the French Alps, all our guests were able to ski here every day. This was down to the excellent work of the mountain teams, the pisteurs and the numerous snow cannons as well as the geography of the slopes.
The two main ski areas of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand give access to a large area of over 220km of pistes (Chamonix has 150km) with a great variety of runs for all ranges of skier and snowboarder. An interesting development in La Clusaz for the 2007-2008 season is that the old Etale cable car (dating back to 1961!) has now been taken down. By the beginning of the 2008 season a brand new mixed chairlift/gondola will be installed, running up to a midstation with a new fast chairlift to the summit as well. The whole sector's pistes are being reworked, so the spacious slopes and great off-piste of this often overlooked massif of La Clusaz will become much more accessible to all ability levels.
Both
villages have a number of interlinked ski areas offering the full range
of slopes, views and skiing environments. Each area is linked to the others
by both runs and lifts, which makes for some fun mountain traversing and
provides a large choice of runs. You can easily pick a mixture of pistes
to suit your requirements and visit both high plateaus and tree-lined slopes
in the same day.
One of our Ski Team may often be out skiing or boarding with you and can show you our favourite runs and help you get a feel for the areas. Our flexible approach helps you get the most from your week. Past customers have all appreciated this service which you simply don't get with other operators!
