Walking Weekends in the Chiltern HIlls

Put your best foot forward for a memorable walking weekend in the stunning Chiltern Hills.

Chilterns Walking Weekends

Walking Weekends in the ChilternsThe Chiltern Hills, or The Chilterns as they’re locally known, are hills made from chalk situated in the South East of England running through the counties of Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Hertfordshire. This stunning range of hills, stretching for a distance of 76 kilometres, was designated as an Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty in 1965. Unlike our other favourite walking weekend destinations, the Chilterns does not have any mountains to tackle, with the highest point being just 265metres high.

Walking in the Chiltern Hills

The walking here is beautiful with most walks taking in woodland, pasture farmland, clear rivers and old traditional villages with pubs serving real ale - a hiker’s paradise. They are also perfect for a weekend walking as they are so close to London and Birmingham and are well served by motorways and trains. The Chiltern Way is the best known walking route in the area, taking in over 160km of paths, starting and ending in Hemel Hempstead.

Other Attractions in the Chilterns

As well as the stunning walking you can take in the beautiful villages along the Thames river with their cafes, boutique shops and lovely architecture – making them ideal for a relaxing weekend break as well as an outdoor hiking weekend.

Cobstone Windmill in the ChilternsThere are also a few surprises for walkers in the Chilterns – you may stumble across the village of Turville, equidistant between High Wycombe and Henley-on-Thames, the location for the famous ‘Vicar of Dibley’ series.

You may also recognise the Cobstone Windmill sitting atop a windy field near Ibstone which is the landmark famous as the windmill in Chitty Chity Bang Bang.
