Itinerary
Join us
on a Friday afternoon as we leave London, and head down to Portsmouth
to catch the ferry across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. After the
quick half-hour crossing we pitch camp before heading straight into
the vibrant town of Cowes which is home to the internationally important
sailing regatta known as "Cowes Week".
Friday
evening features the impressive firework show over the harbour and we
will be in town in good time to catch the spectacular display. The town
and high street atmosphere has to be experienced to be believed.
We include entry to the Marina site which is "the place" for
the evening's entertainment and features a host of bands, bars and entertainment.
A great party atmosphere in the centre of the action.
First
call is back into the town of Cowes to catch some of the great yachting
action. Watch the yachts line up for their races, see the cannon's being
fired to start the action and check out The Royal Yacht Squadron - the
most exclusive sailing club in the world.
The town and high street are also worth exploring and there will be
plenty of time to wander round this enchanting town and also catch a
boat ride round the harbour to view the large racing yachts moored up
(included).
After lunch
we head out to explore the scenery of the island - taking in the famous
"Needles" and a spectacular cliff top walk along the Tennyson
Trail to Freshwater Bay.It's
a great walk next to the high cliffs with a stunning back drop of the
blue ocean. The views from the top stretch across the Isle of Wight
and back across to the mainland.
We continue
to explore the cliffs and beaches to the south of the island and will
find a suitable spot to enjoy a barbeque and relaxed meal on the beach.
Plenty of great food, a few beers and some games on the beach!
Sunday
morning starts with a hearty breakfast before we explore Queen Victoria's
favourite - Osbourne House - or if the weather is good, we can head
to the beach and hire surf ski's or fly the latest power kites.
After that
we find a picturesque setting for lunch - looking out across the sea,
before we catch the ferry back to the mainland before continuing back
to London.
