SAMPLE ITINERARY
Thursday
On Thursday evening drive to Penrith in northern England. You should
arrive at your destination late at night (hopefully in time for last
orders!). Stay overnight at a comfortable and friendly village hostel.
Friday
Start the day with views of the Yorkshire Dales and a hearty cooked
breakfast, then continue the scenic drive north towards Ben Nevis. You
will pass along the shores of Loch Lomond and through the majestic Glen
Coe valley, towards the foot of Ben Nevis and the town of Fort William.
There is an opportunity to explore the town and make last minute preparations
for the challenge.
At
around 5pm you will start the event and begin the 1344m ascent of Ben
Nevis. The walk up and down takes around 5 – 6 hours and will
have you arriving back at your vehicles just after dark at about 11pm.
You will then drive through the night, returning to England and onto
the Lake District.
Saturday
It’s an early start, departing to climb Scafell Pike in the dark.
A beautiful walk rewarded by watching dawn break over England as you
make your way to the summit. The round walk is about 4 hours and needs
concentration on the navigation near the top. After completing Scafell
Pike you will drive to Wales for the final leg of the challenge - Mount
Snowdon.
Starting
at about 1pm you will have 4 hours to complete the 24-hour challenge.
Taking the direct approach, the Pyg Track climbs steeply to reach the
summit at 1,085m. Take in the breathtaking views and bask in the glory
of completion. The challenge can finish at the top, or you can include
the descent to base for the full acheivement – and a well-deserved
cold beer!
You will then drive to the bunkhouse base for the chance to rest, re-hydrate
and clean up before heading to the local pub for dinner. There’s
sure to be a few tales to swap and some aching legs to tend, but the
sense of satisfaction and achievement will provide a great buzz!
Sunday
Relax! Enjoy a cooked breakfast which could be followed by a gentle
walk to ease the legs back into it before making your return journey.
